It does a great job as long as you follow the directions.
The price was the convincing factor.I could imagine this would be nice to check yourself before going into a vehicle or what not, but for my purposes of using this to test me and my friends' levels of sobriety, it's great. It's kind of annoying that it takes time after each test to reboot, but if you have some patience it's great.

I did quite a bit of research before buying this model. I live in Minnesota where alchohol offenses are having increasingly onerous penalties. Not to mention the life changing risk you face if you accidentally kill someone while under the influence. There is no excuse to ever get a DUI if you own one of these and use it correctly. We own a boat and like to spend the days on the lake tipping a few back - well you run the risk of having your vehicle confiscated if you are over the limit, among quite a few other penalties. The S80 always gives an accurate result and gives us the confidence to have a few and know where we stand from a BAC standpoint. Once we had my sister use it - she had been drinking "wine" all day - I was confused when her reading came back as 0.00 - turns out she was drinking grape juice and pretending it was wine.

I have owned mine for over a year and have had no problems what-so-ever. If you like to drink at all and have a lot to lose if caught for DUI - this is a must have. The price seems like a bargain when you are the mitigating the risks of far great costs and/ or potentially jail time.

Working in the court system, I would highly recommend this. First, you need to know your BAC if you're going to go out, then drive. Too many arrests. That being said, this unit is easy to use, easy to read, gives accurate readings. It should be recalibrated once a year. It fits nicely in my purse. In less than 20 seconds, I have a really good idea what my BAC is. This is the second one I own, first one is BACtrack B70, which needed recalibration after less than 6 months, probably because all my friends were using it to check their BAC. It's really worth every penny. I also recommend B70.

This is a really useful device. I think everyone should have one, it would probably cut down on DUIs. People can't accurately judge their BAC on their own. Just to be safe, I wouldn't trust it to more than 0.02 accuracy, and I probably wouldn't drive on any more than half the legal limit.

junk.....I drank 5 beers in the span of about an hour and a half and the thing still registered in the green. But I only spent 5 bucks for this so I expected that. You would have better luck with one of those little DUI charts that list body weight and how quickly your body can process and eliminate the alcohol from your system.

AlcoHAWK PT500 Breathalyzer

Easy to use, appears to be accurate and you do not need to blow as long as I did with my older and cheaper meter. Just make sure you wait after your last drink, for at least 10 min. And drink some water before the test. Alcohol traces in your mouth seem to really influence the reading and give a much higher result. But I think that goes for all meters. I recommend it!

I bought this to use at my fiance's 30th birtday party for some games that we were playing so we were not relying on the information to be completely accurate, we were just having fun. That seems to be a good thing since the info it gave varied wildly, it could give different answers back to back for the same person. We didn't care though, we had a lot of fun with it at a brewery, and we were a hit with other people outside our group who wanted to try it out. If you're looking for the equivalent of a toy this is a nice, inexpensive option. If you are looking for accurate results, I would go with a higher quality (read: more expensive)model.

Bought this for a friend of mine so she wouldn't even think about being over the .08 level again.

So far, it works great.This thing might be semi-accurate up to about 3 or 4 drinks but past that absolutely and completely off the mark. I recieved one, tried it many many times (following the guidelines in the handbook), and finally sent it back and they replaced it with a brand new one. Rinse and repeat... a couple of times it has registered me at a .40 .... evidentally i was dead at the time. Might as well buy something much cheaper, because it can't be off by much more than this thing. (

Hmm, this might have value if you're going to use the watch function, but I found it worthless when using the blood alcohol function. If I took a shot and breathed into it, it would register something. After having a mixed cocktail wit 1.5 shots of gin or vodka it would register 0.0. The poorly translated paper/ instruction sheet states it takes some time for this to begin to work after openning the box, and indeed it registered nothing for the first couple of days of use. After two days I eventually got the results previously described. I guess you get what you pay for.

I got a pretty good deal on this, so i can't be mad. Earlier in the evening, a buddy and i did a little experimenting with it, and...while not accurate, it at least gave a ballpark figure. Fast forward 5 hours. I had two very large and stiff drinks back to back. after waiting approx. 20 minutes, i used the device. Results? .40. Ten minutes later? .40 . 5 minutes after that it registered .38. As of right now....more than 35 minutes after I finished my beverage, I am blowing a .40 again. According to the included pamphlet as well as common knowledge, I should be "comatose". I am a 30 year old male, and weigh about 280lbs. I know that I am for sure not good to drive, but i would estimate my current BAC in the high teens to the mid to low twenties, not .40. I feel that I could actually write a paper or article right now, or take a test that I have studied for.

This machine is far far from reliable. Its greatest use is to convince friends that they are not ok to drive. Numbers twenty minutes after 50ml of 40% alcohol seemed to be more accurate than after several drinks.

I'm really disappointed with this product. It seems to give a random and inaccurate reading every time. Waste of money...At first I was skeptical, but after learning how to use it, I don't go out without it. The key is you must wait 15 or so minutes AFTER your last drink, or it will give you inconsistent results. Too soon after and the alcohol won't be in your lungs, or there may be a drop right on your tongue which sends the reading too low or high. This is in the instruction booklet which I'm surprised I actually opened.

Anyway - this has become a great conversation point at bars. I've had plenty of people come up to me and ask to try it. It turns into a nice social item for getting to know people who you would have never met before. It also keeps me in check as I get close to leaving any bar. This isnt the cure to DUI's or dangerous drivers, but it certainly helps.
